Fuses
FAQ's
ANSWER:
If you want to risk burning up an electrical harness ( In
today's vehicles this could cost in excess of $4,000.) or have
an electrical fire. A fuse is used to protect a circuit or
device from exceeding a safe limit. Fuses have an amp rating
marked on them. The wiring and design load specify the size of
the fuse needed to protect it.
When the current draw in a circuit
exceeds its normal limit the fuse blows and stops current flow
to that circuit. Sometimes a fuse pops for no apparent reason
and replacing it solves the problem. The wiring is designed to
handle the load specified on the original fuse or stamped on the
fuse panel. If you have to replace the fuse with a larger one to
stop it from blowing the wiring can get hot and melt the plastic
insulation away from it and any surrounding wires causing even
more shorts and possibly a fire.
