ANSWER:
No. The electric cooling fan only runs when the engine reaches a
certain temperature ( 189-237 degrees F ) and turns off when the engine is
cooled back down. It may run continuously when the air conditioning is on,
but on newer vehicles the cooling fan will cycle on and off only when the
A/C reaches a certain high side temperature or pressure. This is done to
conserve energy.
Electric cooling fans are used primarily on front wheel drive vehicles,
but are becoming more popular on all type of vehicles. Electric fans were
used on FWD vehicles because the did not require a belt and could be
mounted independently from the engine. But electric fans require less
energy to operate ( Improved fuel economy ), are quieter and allow better
regulation of engine temperature. So they are being used more often in
newer vehicles.
If the electric fan is not working it could be a wiring problem, bad
electric fan motor, a blown fuse, bad coolant temperature switch, a burned
out relay, corroded electrical connections or an engine computer control
problem.
