ANSWER:
A brake rotor must be replaced if it is at or below the minimum
thickness specification or the discard thickness stamped on the rotor.
Replacement is also necessary if a rotor can not be resurfaced without
exceeding the minimum thickness or discard thickness specifications. It
may be recommended to replace a rotor if it has hard spots, is warped, has
been resurfaced previously for warpage or has severe rust pits on the braking
surface.
A Brake drum must be replaced if it is at or beyond the maximum inside
diameter specification or the discard diameter stamped on the face of the
drum. Replacement is also necessary if a drum can not be resurfaced
without exceeding the maximum diameter specification or the discard
diameter specification. Replacement will also be required if the drum is
cracked, damaged, bell mouthed or to far out-of-round to be resurfaced.
